The Panasonic Toughbook gets going... into space!

Wednesday, 25 January 2017 Temperatures below -60°c an altitude beyond the Armstrong line at 34km and travelling upward of 250mph

Panasonic’s annual Toughbook Innovation Forum has broken the final frontier thanks to the ingenuity of live events specialist, mclcreate. Quite possibly further and more boldly than any Toughbook has ever gone before… into space, itself!

Panasonic’s Toughbook is a device that ensures mobile workers can access volumes of data and deliver information in real time wherever they are, increasing efficiency and productivity. Renowned for being rugged, heavy duty and able to withstand all sorts of demanding environmental conditions, Toughbook has been taken to new extremes in this latest adventure.

mclcreate’s creative team came up with a space mission concept that would be the ultimate test of the product’s robust capabilities, taking it to temperatures below -60°c, an altitude beyond the Armstrong line at 34km and travelling at speeds as fast as 250mph.

Launched in a precise weather balloon in Sheffield, the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-N1 Handheld took the first trip. Equipped with six cameras, the device travelled for two hours through the testing conditions and landed in Grimsby. The next day, the FZ-G1 Tablet was put into similar conditions and eventually arrived back in Norwich, after being tracked by the same FZ-N1 which took the same journey the day before.

This successful experiment will be the focus of this year’s Toughbook Innovation Forum, which is taking place on 16 February 2017 in Birmingham, and themed around how the brand can reach new frontiers which will be the foundation of Panasonic Toughbook campaigns for 2017.

This Forum will be the “go to” event for any buyer in the utilities, emergency services, defence, logistics and field service market, or any business interested in the extraordinary performance capabilities of Toughbook. mclcreate’s video of the space mission will be a major component in the day’s events, alongside a series of inspirational “Tough Talks”. mclcreate will also be providing full creative, production and logistics support for the day.
