Davis Cup by BNP Paribas tie UK v USA

Emirates Arena, Glasgow
mclcreate delivered a range of event production services for the Davis Cup at Glasgow’s iconic Emirates Arena.
The high-profile event called for complex technical solutions, especially given the venue. This was the first time (outside the Commonwealth Games) that an operation of this scale had been undertaken in the Sports Hall.
The organisers wanted a floor-to-ceiling division to prevent noise levels from hospitality causing disruption to any media interviews. They also required a suitable structure to provide a kitchen area that was hidden from general view.
This was accomplished by installing a truss structure underneath existing venue infrastructure, and then underhanging a motorised beam upon which we hung 350m2 of black wool serge drape.
The kitchen division was a ground-supported structure that was erected to 4 metres in height, and hung with another 150m2 of black wool serge drape to hide the kitchen and its equipment.
This provided an effective division between the two key areas, ensuring optimum acoustics for the media centre, and shielding the kitchens from view.
We were also tasked with carpeting the Chill Out Zone for players, coaches and officials, creating a relaxing space for the big names of the UK and US teams to rest between appearances on court.
Crucially, mclcreate also pitched in with audiovisual display, building the frames to accommodate the giant 7m score board and TV relay screens.
At the eleventh hour, we were called upon to provide an elevated A-frame for some signage that was deemed to be too far away for cameras.
Working through the evening before completion, we were able to source and erect 30m of scaffolding and baseplates to suspend the two signs just behind the court.
