Hilton Birmingham Metropole, 2012
September saw mclcreate and Hilton Birmingham Metropole working together on a circus themed open evening where guests had an opportunity to experience the hotels event facilities, whilst viewing mclcreate’s audio visual products including our latest video projection mapping technology.
The evening began with guest registration in the Monarch foyer followed by drinks and a guided walkabout to view the many facilities the Metropole has to offer. The Monarch Suite with a floor space of some 1299m² was transformed for the evening into a circus big top by use of LED lighting to add atmosphere, ceiling draping to enhance the tent like feel, and projected backdrops to reinforce the feeling of being at the circus.
Guests were met on entering the big top by the Ring Master who outlined the evening’s activities which featured various workshops, demonstrations, and games of skill and chance where spot prizes could be won. There was also a prize draw to win an iPad and a short stay at any of the Hilton Hotels. Following the evenings announcements the house lights were dimmed and the audience were entranced by our projection mapping video which played across the stage screen.
Video projection mapping is an exciting new projection technique used to turn almost any surface into a dynamic video display. Using specialised software and servers, a virtual model of the projection is placed within a 3D virtual environment. Using this information, software can interact with a projector to fit any desired image onto the surface of that object. Using this technique, you can add extra dimensions, optical illusions, and notions of movement onto previously static objects. The video is commonly combined with audio to create an audio visual narrative which plays out in real time in front of a spellbound audience.
The evening drew to a close with a ‘Take That’ tribute band and a prize giving ceremony before retiring to relax in the hotel bar. The evening was a fantastic success, with many of the guests commenting on the hotels extensive facilities and intrigued by the amazing projection mapping.
