Network Rail Partnership Awards

Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London

mclcreate started talking to Network Rail about up and coming projects in late January 2013. Having clearly demonstrated how mclcreate had delivered significant events across 2012, we were shortlisted to receive the event brief to pitch for Network Rail’s Partnership Awards which were to be held at the luxurious Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in July.

The brief for this event was designed to be much more than just another awards event in terms of the many creative aspects that the client and stakeholders wanted to include within the delivery; the first one being a stage set 'that promoted engagement and inclusion of the audience' whilst 'belying the size and scale of the room'. This was a challenge we grasped with both hands, working with our in-house Creative Hub to deliver the visualisation of our creative ideas.

Upon successful selection and working closely with the client in all aspects of the creative design of the event, the first test was the 'engagement element' of the brief. In a room as large as the 1,200m² Westminster Ballroom, how could we achieve this vital aspect?

The answer to this question was the design and manufacture of a huge 28m wide x 4m high concave cycloramic widescreen structure. Upon final agreement from the stakeholders that this was 'exciting and absolutely the way to go' we set about creating the structure and test built it in our scenic department in London.

The next step in the development of the event was to create the complex opening sting, the awards reveals and the individual award animations. The Creative Hub did an amazing job of delivering this highly important content which took over a month to storyboard and create and was very well received on the night of the event itself.

Overall feedback from the team at Network Rail was hugely positive, and has been instrumental in mclcreate being shortlisted as a preferred partner for creative and technical events delivery for the next 5 years.

mclcreate delivered a fantastic, creative solution for our awards event which was consistent from concept through to delivery. They were very responsive to combining our ideas and their extensive knowledge into a very impressive set and overall awards show.
