MediaCityUK, Manchester 2012
Utilising the same 8x6 metre mobile stage and LED screen as used for the NASA Curiosity landing simulcast event only a few days earlier, mclcreate helped stage the BBC Radio 6 Music Soul and Funk show, followed the next day by CBeebies very own Justin’s House Party.
Knowing that there would be multiple requirements for the set and stage arrangement over the event days, mclcreate ensured the equipment and infrastructure were in place. As the stage was to be used for various events, the decision was to utilise an empty shell approach whereby branding and theming could be applied with minimal issue. Ensuring the AV elements met with the individual clients needs, an audio line array was utilised on either side of the stage to provide a directional PA system ensuring we were able to meet the noise restrictions of the Piazza at MediaCityUK. Alongside the PA system, various lighting and video equipment were installed to meet the diverse roll of the upcoming events.
BBC 6 Music hosted a live showcase of music with a performance by the Haggis Horns followed by a 90 minute Craig Charles set. The evening was about highlighting the best in funk and soul music from its roots in black music through to current club sounds. The event attracted some 3000 people who danced and enjoyed the mix of reggae, funk and soul music.
Hot on the heels of the previous night’s concert, it was all hands to ensure the CBeebies Justin’s House Party was ready for the influx of 3000 children and parents for a picnic style family sit down. With good weather and a family friendly atmosphere, the live stage shows held in the morning and afternoon were fantastically received by all. Finishing the shows was a family sing song and then screening of a new episode from the forthcoming series of Justin’s House Party. Ensuring everyone could watch the new episode, it was sent to the BBC’s 5x3 metre giant LED screen using one of our vision mixing desks.
